Tree Tears: Magick with Resins

Tree Tears

Magick with Resins

Myrrh
Normally associated with the feminine and the moon this resin was often burned in offering to many male solar Gods like Ra. Being both very healing and soothing while also very strong in scent and taste (like TCP and earwax, so you know) apparently gave it it's name from "mur" meaning bitter in Arabic.
Medically it is hugely helpful as a powerful anti-fungal and antiseptic made into toothpastes, and gargles, washes and balms I can see why it would be a mother's best friend! Even today we find it kills all of the breast cancer cells when tasted, even the most resistant to treatment.

Magickally when burned myrrh unsurprisingly cleanse the space, yet it is also calming and soothing on the mind and emotions. It helps create a sense of peace, mediation and calm. It also greatly increases the potency of anything it is added to. Usually burned with frankincense (another North African tree resin) it is used both to cleanse (objects, places and people) as well as to bless and consecrate them.
Because it is so soothing and wards so well it is used when there are transitions to and from spirit and was used in the birthing room and the funeral hall. While helping those through the liminal space is always useful it is more about those who are there (bringing calmness and healing) to those suffering the pains of life and death of loved ones.
It is wonderful for healing of all kinds because it works on many level and doing healing while burning this potent resin as an incense increases the experience and healing exponentially. So break out the pure resins and burn before, during and after getting your healers hat on and you and your client will reap the rewards!
I avoid buying powder at all cost because it is far easier to hide the low quality of something crushed almost beyond recognition. Even some cheap resins have melted down the pure resin and mixed it the cheaper gum Arabic and sell that in chunks. I like using only the best as the incense you burn is something you inhale and absorb into your space. It is also an offering, a prayer made of smoke, it should be as good as it can be.
